Street style: the casual prepster

Major: Media management

Cody Castro was an individual whose style I’ve admired from afar for awhile. I was always fascinated in what inspires him to dress the way he dresses everyday since he is one of the few that does not wear a pair of regular pair of jeans – ever. Luckily, I managed to get the courage to finally ask him all about his fashion. Here is his story:

What he classifies his style as: I just try to dress comfortably to my own liking. I dress for myself so I don’t know if I have a specific name for it. I try to look casual but also presentable at the same time. I wouldn’t say I classify my style as anything that’s out there, but other people might, but I just dress the way that I see aesthetically fit. If I had to classify my style, I would call it casual prepster because I wear a lot of button up shirts with sweaters.

Why he dresses the way he dresses: I think it’s a big part of a person in that it shows a lot about their personality and who they are. I think I’m a pretty cool person and laid back, I guess. I feel like the way someone dresses portrays a lot about them, about who they are and their personality. So, I just always wanted to make that first impression on someone before I start talking or before I met them. The first impression on the way you look, and I always want to look presentable.

Inspirations for his style: I don’t know if I have a really specific inspiration, but I guess maybe Andrew Garfield. I like to dress like him. I don’t really have too many inspirations per se, I just try to dress what looks good to me but I would think Andrew Garfield closely resembles the style I’m trying to reach.

Favorite stores he shops at: My favorite store to shop at is American Eagle. And my second store is H&M, it runs a close second. I can get by on those two stores but I also shop around other places too.

What is his fashion story: My style has definitely changed over the years. Last year, I dressed completely different than I do this year. I always wanted to dress better and nicer. I guess I was just stuck in a rut where I was used to dressing in a T-shirt and jeans all the time that once I was able to have a summer job and buy my own clothes and make my own choices with what I wear, I ended up developing my style more.

Opinion on college fashion: It could be better. I feel like a lot of people don’t put as much effort into it as they could.

City style vs. college style: I feel like college style is a lot more relaxed and casual because you’re not really trying to impress anyone everyday except maybe on the weekends, while city style is a lot more trying to dress for the environment and everyone is looking at you; there’s eyes everywhere, so you’ve got to look good.

Which style does he prefer: Well, I always dress the same in both city style and college style. I just dress for myself and make sure I look good wherever I go.

Advice on college fashion: Try to find good deals because as a college student, it’s hard to spend money to look nice, but a lot of places have student discounts and there’s a lot of websites where you can find nice-looking, affordable clothes.
