Have you ever felt the need to live out a fairy tale? Better yet — have you ever felt the knack to turn straw into gold? Never fear — The Dufflebag Theatre’s unique production of Rumpelstiltskin is here!
Rumpelstiltskin is the opening show of the 2014-15 Kaleidoscope Family Series, brought to the campus by the Rockefeller Arts Center. According to the university’s website, this is the company’s sixth performance at Fredonia.
For those who don’t know, the story of Rumpelstiltskin is about a miller who brags to the king about how his daughter can turn straw into gold. The king is impressed by this talent and tells the daughter she has a night to turn the straw into gold, otherwise he will kill her. She laments until a little imp enters the room and for a price, he spins straw into gold.
Eventually, with the imp’s help, the miller’s daughter becomes the queen of the land, but for the ultimate price: her firstborn child! Now, the queen has three days to figure out his true name, or lose her child forever!
According to its website, DuffleBag Theatre is known for its infamous, “nearly world famous” productions. Marcus Lundgren is the the artistic director and Rod Keith is the general manager for this show. What sets DuffleBag Theatre apart from the rest is the company’s truly interactive performances — the audience members truly become part of the show. DuffleBag Theatre has been employing this interactive storytelling since 1992, and while the core story remains the same, each performance offers a unique twist that makes each show one of a kind.
If you’re looking for a wonderful, child-friendly performance where you can laugh your socks off, go ahead and check out Rumpelstiltskin.
Rumpelstiltskin will be performed in Marvel Theatre on Nov. 14 at 7 p.m.
