Breaking: Sammy Adams is coming to Fredonia

Even though FREDFest is no longer a part of Fredonia, Spectrum has been working hard to organize this year’s Spring Concert. Headlining the event is American rapper and songwriter, Sammy Adams, best known for his hits “All Night Longer” and “L.A. Story.”

“We used to do FREDFest, which consisted of… outdoor activities,” President of Spectrum Rachel Ando said with a small laugh. “Which lead up to a concert the next night. Eventually, that got too big so we couldn’t do the concert anymore. When [FREDFest] got taken away last year, we thought that we had to do something, so we thought to bring back the concert.”

The Spring Concert may not be the huge party that resident Fredonia veterans remember, but it offers something that might interest students and faculty.

“Last year, during our Dinosaur Bar-B-Que and throughout that whole week, we surveyed students throughout the campus as to what genre they would want to see on campus,” Vice President of Spectrum Meghan Flynn said. “We felt like we weren’t reaching out to the students and seeing what they wanted to hear and it’s hard for us. There’s only nine of us and representing the whole campus as nine people is not usually the easiest thing to do.”

According to MTV, “Sam Adams was a senior at Trinity College in Hartford when he decided to inject some attitude into Asher Roth’s hit “I Love College.” With the results posted digitally under the name Sam Adams, his answer song, “I Hate College,” made the rapper an Internet star in 2009.”

In 2010, Sammy Adams released his first album and topped the digital hip-hop charts the day of its release.

The Spring Concert will take place April 23 at 7 p.m. in Steele Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m.
