I’d App That: Buzzfeed’s ‘Tasty’

You’ve probably seen “Tasty” videos floating around your Facebook or Instagram feeds. You know, the recipe videos with foods that you wouldn’t have even thought of making and end with “Oh, yes!”

But did you know that you can watch all of those videos on an app?

Buzzfeed’s “Tasty” app is the perfect place to learn basic cooking skills.

This app has helped me learn how to make a killer chicken parmesan, delicious banana bread cookies (yes, cookies!) and a double stuffed-crust pizza dough.

Right now I live off campus, so I’m always making myself new dishes. But, I like to cook food that is beyond Ramen Noodles and bland salads.

“Tasty” has taught me the ins and outs of preparing easy and delicious meals.

What I like about the app is that it always goes beyond the basics. Where else would you see a banana bread bottom cheesecake?

“Tasty” is extremely easy to use and navigate.

Everyday on the home screen, it always has a different themed list of recipes that you can scroll through. It has themes like “Pizza, I Really Love Pizza” or “Chocoholic.”

The app allows you to find any recipe you want. Its search bar shows you all of the different ways that you can refine your search so that you can find the perfect dish to make.

For example, if you want an easy Italian, but healthy dinner, it would show you dishes like eggplant parmesan boats and easy chicken cacciatore.

“Tasty” is also a great app to find healthier options.

It has videos telling you what ingredient to swap out to make a more rich and delectable dish healthier or videos teaching you four ways to make spaghetti squash.

It also provides an option in the app to show you vegetarian-only recipes. This is done by simply going into the settings and setting the app to “vegetarian” mode.

You may not know this, but “Tasty” is more than just step-by-step videos. In the app, it provides guides on all things food and kitchen related, like “19 Things That’ll Really Wow Your Dinner Party Guests.”

When I tell my friends about it, they aren’t even aware that it is an app. They just thought “Tasty” posted videos on social media sites.

You can download Buzzfeed’s “Tasty” in the App Store for free.
