Pause what you’re doing: Interactive Theater Society hosts annual Applause for Paws

An event based solely on helping an animal shelter? Sounds like a wonderful destresser before finals plague the campus.

Applause for Paws is an annual charity event run by the Interactive Theater Society (ITS) group on campus.

The event helps benefit the Lakeshore Humane Society, a no-kill animal shelter in Dunkirk.

This shelter thrives solely on donations and grants.

“There will be musical events with bands and acapella groups from campus performing, as well as a raffle basket auction,” said Kirsten Soos, a senior theatre arts major and president of ITS.

Unlike last year, performances will feature on-campus groups as well as local musicians.

And anyone can perform as a musical act as well.

ITS has put in weeks of prepping to execute this event.

“We have to set up all the staging and baskets, organize the performance roster, advertise on and off campus and organize games and activities. Our entire e-board and general body commit to this event,” Soos said.

This event is special to many members of ITS.

“I like this event because I like giving gifts and it’s a good way to celebrate before going home. And I think every group on campus should have a charity event,” she said.

Everyone is welcome, including past and present students as well as Fredonia’s community members.

Along with the raffling of several food-based baskets, there will also be a pie contest.

“Unfortunately, there are no dogs allowed in the multi-person room in Williams under [any] circumstances, so no dogs,” said Soos.

The event takes place on Dec. 3 in the multi-person room in the Williams Center from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
