Colleges Against Cancer to collaborate with American Cancer Society for Cabaret for a Cure

In the spirit of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Fredonia club Colleges Against Cancer is putting on a fundraising and awareness event with the American Cancer Society.

Cabaret for a Cure will take place Tuesday, Oct. 15 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Williams Center Multi-Purpose Room.

The event is one of the many put on each semester by Colleges Against Cancer, a club with the mission of raising money, spreading awareness and spreading knowledge about cancer.

Their event will do exactly this. Money raised at the event will go right back into their mission and also to the American Cancer Society, who they work closely with.

This year marks the second Cabaret for a Cure and was planned by Sarah Pearson, a senior music education major.

Sarah is on the e-board for Colleges Against Cancer, and is specifically in charge of entertainment. Although she works closely with President Leanna Hess, the Cabaret for a Cure event is solely her event.

Being on the entertainment board led her to reach out to many music groups for the event.

The lineup will include Some Like It Hot, Much More Chill, the Percussion Guild and more.

Aside from entertainment, the event will also feature tables with fun knick-knacks from the club. There will also likely be a basket raffle.

When asked about other events the club puts on, Pearson said “We are pretty busy.”

Some may consider this an understatement considering the work put into their events alongside the American Cancer Society.

This semester, they will be doing Cabaret for a Cure and “Paint Cranston Pink” on the same day, as well as a Buffalo Breast Cancer Walk over fall break and a winter kickoff where they will announce their “Relay For Life” theme.

“Relay is the hardest to prepare for … there is so much that goes into it … you have to be in close contact with ACS the whole time,” said Pearson.

Tickets for Cabaret for a Cure are $3 for students and $6 for the general public.
