At the height of a busy weekend for the department of theatre and dance with “Ghost Quartet,” produced by Jay Byron, Niklas Dahlen and Skylar Ginsberg, “Not for Discipline” presented by the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) dance senior class and “This Random World” presented by Performing Arts Company (PAC) all opening this Friday, April 22, you might think you’ve got your whole weekend filled out.

But not so fast!

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) theatre arts class of 2022 is hosting “Envision” on April 22, 23 and 27. “Envision” is the culmination of senior theatre arts students’ hard work and education over the past few years.

Students started work on their capstone projects back in August, developing a plan for the process and execution of a play, dance piece or paper.

Papers could be from a research perspective, delving into a particular section of the theatre industry, such as Jessie Meehan’s project on the value of preserving knowledge of historical clothing. They can also be a reflection of a recent role within TADA’s Walter Gloor Mainstage season, like Justin Nadal’s reflection on his two roles in “Mr. Burns: A Post Electric Play.”

Powerpoint presentations on their research and reflections will be featured in the Symposium on April 27 at 6 p.m. in the Costello Room in Rockefeller Arts Center.

Plays and dances, written and/or produced by students with either an acting, directing or playwrighting focus, are being performed in the Bartlett Theatre this weekend on Friday, April 22 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 23 at 2 p.m.

Friday and Saturday’s performances each feature different students’ work, so if you have the chance to attend both and see all 11 pieces, it’s highly recommended. The plays feature topics like love, grief, addiction and abuse, and are harrowing reflections of these young adult’s perceptions of the world we live in. The showcase serves an insight into the future of these artists, as they prepare to fully propel themselves into the industry, whenever it takes them.

You have the opportunity to reserve a seat in the Bartlett Theatre for either night of the showcase at the following link for free, and all events are open to the public.

Tori Trumbull, the author of this article, is the co-head of publicity for the upcoming “Envision” events. Trumbull’s play “Sanar” is featured in the showcase.
