Special to The Leader
We’re getting to that point in the semester where it’s constantly freezing outside and there is not much to do here. Plus, if you don’t have a car, you’re essentially stranded on campus, which can get boring fast.
If you’re struggling to find fun things to do, consider attending Rock ‘N’ Skate in Steele Hall on Sunday Feb. 19 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is $5 and skate rentals at the ice rink will be $4.
At its core, Rock ‘N’ Skate is an ice skating event that helps SUNY Fredonia’s student-run radio station, Fredonia Radio Systems (FRS), earn money to fund future events.
Rock ‘N’ Skate happens annually, but this year, things will be a bit different. According to one of the coordinators and the club’s production director, Hunter Halterman, this year’s Rock ‘N Skate will have a Valentine’s Day theme.
Halterman said, “It should be a fun time to bring your significant other or best friend.”
There will be heart-shaped cookies, cotton candy and other sweets available at the rink. There will also be a raffle for different FRS merchandise.
Steele Hall will even be decorated in all of the classic Valentine’s Day colors.
But aside from the sweets, the event is equipped with music and students hosting.
Who better to DJ and keep you entertained while you skate than the “Lovercall” crew. Lovercall is a late-night, anonymous love and relationship show that airs weekly on Thursdays at 10 p.m. on WDVL 89.5.
They’ll be playing some old classics and some of the music from their show.
Joshua Ribakove is FRS’ staff representative and a student who has attended Rock ‘N’ Skate in past years. Ribakove said he was excited to attend this year’s event, and added that last year’s Rock ‘N’ Skate was a fun time. Ribakove is also excited to see how they’ll interpret the Valentine’s Day theme.
Overall, this year’s Rock ‘N’ Skate is a way to celebrate Valentine’s Day and spend a night with a partner, friend or to treat yourself.
Remember to bring some cash and to just have fun! No matter your ice skating skill level, all attendees are welcome. Whether you’re an ice skating pro, or just a beginner, FRS hopes to see you on the ice.
