Delta Phi Epsilon’s “Pie A Deepher” made a sweet return for its annual fundraising event. For almost ten years, Delta Phi Epsilon has held a philanthropy fundraising event for the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD).

Delta Phi Epsilon is one of the three sororities on SUNY Fredonia’s campus and was founded in 1917. However, ANAD became a big part of their organization in 1976. According to Clara Venturo, Delta Phi Epsilon’s vice president of programming, ANAD is the nation’s first non-profit organization dedicated to helping suffering individuals and their families through a variety of mediums including their website, newsletter and educational outreach  programs.

“Our sorority holds … ANAD, very near and dear to our hearts. Especially because so many of us either struggle with eating disorders or know someone who has, it’s important to educate each other on it, it could just save someone’s life!,” Venturo said.

During the sorority’s week-long fundraiser they put on different activities like Pie A Deepher, raffles, a yoga/pilates class, a selfie wall event where each sister writes a nice thing about each other on a printed photo of each member and then finally their closing ANAD vigil.

Delta Phi Epsilon’s President, Julia Giannichi, said all of the events are “fun and uplifting for herself and her sisters.”

This year, the sorority raised just under $2,000, nearly doubling last year’s overall total of $900 , with $200 of it being raised from Pie A Deepher alone. Several other Greek Life organizations raise money for their organization’s charities through similar events like Pie A Kappa and Pie A SGPhi which happened earlier this week.
