If you walk down the Fredonia streets at night, chances are you’ll hear some music.
Maybe that music is coming from a bar, a house show or even just someone’s speakers. Regardless, that’s what Fredonia’s about — music.
The Local Lo-Down is a radio show that encapsulates this very thing. As said in its mission statement at the start of every episode, the show aims to “promote and showcase the local music scene here in the Fredonia and Western New York area at large.”
And now, the team is planning to host a third concert.
On Saturday, Sept. 9, at Mainstreet Studios, you can expect to hear some more music from the likings of Relentless Moisture, the Weather Might Say Otherwise and Del Paxton.
Jordan Budd, executive producer, A&R lead and co-host of the Local Lo-Down said, “for the last couple Local Lo-Down shows, it’s been a bit more of a mixed bill … this one might be the most reined in to one thing … We’ve stuck to rock is the simplest way to say it.”
Budd said, “what really makes it different is that it’s at the start of the semester.” The past two shows were placed at the end of the semester, the first one being on Nov. 12, and the second on May 6.
The change in time may be an attempt to capture an even larger audience.
Budd added, “If we could just do a little bit of the work over the summer and work as much as we can at the beginning of the semester, we’d have a better outcome.”
The Weather Might Say Otherwise is excited to be performing in Fredonia again.
The three members of the band, Damian Brown, Zach Richardson and Tanor Morrison got their start in Fredonia in late 2018, playing their first show in early 2019.
Richardson, the drummer of the band, said, “I’m looking forward to being back in Fredonia, like our place of conception and birth.” Richardson added, “it’s kind of like a ritual almost, going back and showing where we’ve come from and how far we’ve gone and that we’re still growing.”
Brown, guitarist and singer of the band, shared a similar sentiment. He said, “we’ve grown a lot since we were playing in Fredonia regularly. When we come back we’ll just feel a lot more mature than we did.”
The local music scene is very special to Fredonia, with bands coming and performing nearly every week.
Morrison, the bassist and backing vocalist said, “[the local scene] never dies. People want what they want and they’re in it for the music.”
Richardson added, “Fredonia is a very special place, and anyone is lucky to play there.”
