Finding a new book to read can sometimes be difficult.

You may be on a budget or have a specific genre you enjoy, which makes the search for your next pick even more challenging. Next Chapter Bookstore in Fredonia is here to help you.

Books are donated to Next Chapter Bookstore from the community in Fredonia.

“Sometimes the books have only been read one time, [and] sometimes they haven’t been read at all,” said Heidi Powell.

Powell has been a volunteer at Next Chapter Bookstore since its opening.

Next Chapter Bookstore has many different genres to choose from, ranging from mystery to fantasy to American history.

“We want you to find a book because you want to find a book,” said Jennifer Wiskemann, another volunteer at Next Chapter Bookstore. She has volunteered there for about a year.

If you aren’t a big reader, the bookstore doesn’t just offer books.

They also offer DVDs, CDs, audiobooks and more.

Additionally, not only do they offer books for an older audience, but they also have books for children.

“The kids really love picking out their own books,” said Powell. “To be able to have your child come in and be like ‘you can pick out any book you want’… Especially if parents…have a budget, [it allows them] to be able to… do that.”

All the donated books in the Next Chapter Bookstore are at an affordable price.

Students get a discount on the books there. Books typically cost two or three dollars, while students get discounts that can drop the books to a dollar.

“It’s a good deal and it’s something that you might impulse buy and you might experience something new and exciting in your life through a book…you wouldn’t normally spend all that money on,” said Wiskemann.

The children’s books are cheaper, ranging from 50 cents to a dollar.

They also offer a loyalty program. For every 10 books you buy, you get one free.

All of the proceeds from the bookstore go to the Literacy Volunteers of Chautauqua County (LVCC). The LVCC is located right next to Next Chapter Bookstore on 10 and 12 Park Place in Fredonia.

LVCC wants to improve the lives of the community in Chautauqua County by promoting literacy in the community.

On the LVCC website, they say, “We believe that it’s never too late to change your life through learning.”

LVCC is a non-profit organization. They have volunteer tutors who help with a range of subjects, including math, English and more.

“We’re always looking for new volunteers and especially tutors for [the] literacy volunteers portion of it,” said Powell.

Wiskemann mentioned a quote from George R.R. Martin that hit home for her: “I have lived a thousand lives and I’ve loved a thousand loves. I’ve walked on distant worlds and seen the end of time. Because I read.”

Next Chapter Bookstore’s hours are Tuesdays from 12 p.m. – 6 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays.

If you need a new book, Next Chapter Bookstore offers a wide variety to choose from.
