[EMAIL REPOST] Coronavirus Memo #3

Dear Campus Community:

Questions continue to arise about the situation relative to Residence Halls on campus.  Hopefully, this memo will eliminate any confusion:

  • The Residence Halls are not closing.
  • Students can remain in the Residence Halls through the remainder of the semester, and meal plans will be honored.
  • The campus realizes there any many valid reasons for students to stay in the residence halls (i.e.—need access to specialized campus facilities and/or equipment, involved in nearby Student Teaching or Internship placements, no access to internet at home, etc.).  As a result, all student requests to remain in the Residence Halls will be honored.
  • Whether residing in the Residence Halls or at home, students will receive distance education for the remainder of the semester.  The exact nature of the coursework will vary based upon discipline, and students will hear from their faculty via email by no later than Monday, March 23.  Students majoring in the Arts or Sciences have expressed special concerns, and answers will be sent as soon as they are known.
  • Students deciding to move home may request additional time to collect their belongings.  If possible, we ask that rooms be vacated over the Spring Break, but if that is not feasible, please contact the Office of Residence Life to arrange an alternative date.

The one unanswered question involves the financial issues associated with moving home.  People are asking if there will be refunds, and the campus has not announced a decision.  We are still waiting to receive some guidance on that issue from SUNY, and do not know when it will be received.

Sincerely,

Dennis L. Hefner, Ph.D.

President
