On Monday, Oct. 4, all students, faculty and staff received an email from Enrollment and Student Services with a message from Brett Isaacson, the Chief of University Police.

The email told of two separate incidents involving SUNY Fredonia students that had occurred in the early morning hours of Oct. 4.

The incidents occurred at 12:30 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. respectively, in the vicinity of Ring Road and Park Drive.

In both incidents, a male suspect approached the victims and assaulted them, attempting to remove their clothing.

The suspect is alleged to be a light-skinned African-American male, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall with a stocky build.

He was wearing a red hoodie with the hood pulled up and grey sweatpants at the time of the assaults, and is estimated to be around college-aged.

Luckily, in both incidents, the victims were able to successfully fight off the suspect.

Neither of the victims were physically injured.

Anyone who may know the identity of the suspect or who has any information regarding the assaults are encouraged to notify University Police.

University police can be contacted by calling (716) 673-3333, emailing upd@fredonia.edu or by submitting an anonymous tip through the Silent Witness webpage.

Isaacson also included some safety tips for students at the end of his email.

These tips are:

  • Walk with a friend if possible
  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times
  • Favorite the University Police emergency number, (716) 673-3333, for easy access
  • Dial 911 if you need emergency help when off-campus
  • Download the Rave/Guardian smartphone application, which is a way to instantly communicate with the University Police. It also allows a trusted friend to track your location if you are walking alone.

In his email, Issacson also says, “if you see something suspicious or concerning, always feel encouraged to call University Police. We’ll happily check out the situation to keep everyone safe.”
