“THE PLUMBER”
Executive Producer of Lovercall
“THE ELECTRICIAN”
Lovercall Producer
Hello!
We are The Plumber and The Electrician: two producers of the radio show Lovercall right here at SUNY Fredonia. Lovercall is an anonymous late-night talk show about love, relationships and more. Students who come on the show use a codename to protect their identities when discussing potentially personal topics, hence the codenames of the writers of this column.
On each episode, the hosts and guests of Lovercall participate in a variety of segments. The cast discusses a relevant news story, a date idea, a wacky discussion and finally a main topic for the episode.
Listeners also write into the show, either via Fredonia Radio’s Instagram, @fredonia_radio, or through the QR code listed in this column.
The show is streamed weekly on Thursdays from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. on WDVL 89.5 at www.fredoniaradio.com.
This column runs in conjunction with Lovercall and can be found both in print and online at fredonialeader.org.
“The Plumber” is a 21-year-old cisgender male who goes by he/him/his pronouns and is a senior at SUNY Fredonia.
“The Electrician” is a 20-year-old cisgender female student who goes by she/her/hers pronouns and is a junior at SUNY Fredonia.
Together, we hope to provide our best advice about college relationships, dating, friendships and other aspects of college life.
Date idea of the week
We also hope to provide our fellow students with a fun and unique date idea in every column. This week, we here at Lovercall suggest that you embrace the chilly winter weather and make some warm memories with your partner!
This week, we think you and your partner should go out in that brisk Fredonia weather and make some snow angels!
Not only that, but you and your partner could also go out and build a snowman! You guys are bound to have tons of fun playing in the snow and decorating our snowman.
Plus, afterwards, you and your partner can warm up inside with a warm fire and some hot chocolate.
Professional intimacy coach guests on Lovercall
Recently, Fredonia Radio Systems was visited by Erica Rose, an intimacy coach.
Typically, the advice we provide here on Lovercall is not professional, but this time, we were able to offer an expert’s opinion.
Erica was a pleasure to have on the show, and she was kind enough to offer our guests and our callers her best advice, and even gave many of us a boost of confidence regarding our sexual wellbeing.
Erica provided many different exercises for the guests, hosts, and producers to all participate in. Even the listeners were able to get in on the action.
First, Erica showed the crew an activity called “Green Light Red Light.” We were all given a sheet that listed several different sexual acts and fantasies. Guests and listeners were then tasked with putting a heart for the activities they enjoyed, a question mark next to the ones they would be willing to try, and an “x” next to the acts we did not like.
The goal of the exercise is for both partners to fill out a sheet, and then trade copies with each other to non-verabally communicate which sexual desires and pleasures they enjoy and are willing to try, and which ones they do not.
For a copy of the sheet you can fill in yourself, visit Erica’s instagram page, @xo.ericarose. The link to the pdf is in her bio.
Erica emphasized the idea of always being communicative with your partner, a concept we at Lovercall heavily endorse.
We also focused on the idea of a sex drive, and how libido is unique to every person.
Erica broke the concept down for us like this. In terms of readiness for sex, some people have their foot on the break more, and some have their foot on the accelerator.
Simply, some people are a little more conservative and careful when it comes to their sex drive, while others are more willing to engage in sex at any point.
Understanding how you interact with your sexual drives can help you discover more pleasure in your sexual experiences, and only having sex when you feel most comfortable is the best way to accomplish this.
According to Erica, the internet is full of sexual temprement questionaries and quizzes you can take to learn about your own sexual drive.
Lovercallers
Erica also helped us answer questions from our callers live on air.
Our first caller asked how they can put themselves “out there” for the first time.
One of our guests, Tea Time, suggested that our caller shouldn’t put too much pressure on themselves. Tea Time wanted our caller to know that someone is out there waiting for them, and that they’ll find who they are meant to be with.
Erica advises our caller to discover the things they like, and that our caller should put their relationships with themselves out there first. The more time you can spend learning more and more about yourself, the better your relationship with others will be.
Erica said one way to do this is to “write a letter to your future partner.” This can help you decide which kind of traits you are looking for in a lover and what you place the most importance on.
Another caller asked how they can create a more positive and loving relationship with themselves.
Erica advises you to stand naked in front of a mirror, and say aloud which parts of yourself you love the most. Additionally, Erica believes that screenshotting your best texts, such as positive messages and happy memories, can positively boost your self-esteem.
