[OPINION] What are Joe Biden’s Chances?

PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN | Provided by whitehouse.gov

Joe Biden is everything Donald Trump is not.

He is a former senator from Delaware, was vice president to Barack Obama and a serving public official for half a century. He’s from the city of Scranton, P.A., a steel town now in decline due to globalization.

Biden spends his days in the White House enjoying time with his family and having a strong bond with his wife Jill. His campaign speeches are on the practicalities of America’s past, and how the future will be brighter than before, not about how our best days are over.

Even with his decades of experience, Biden has a difficult task in front of him. His own party is even more fractured than the current Republican Party.

As he tries to reform the era of capitalism we are in where corporations rake in record profits, and regular Americans struggle with rent and student loans, some in his party want him to go farther.

Those same bosses also want him to ease up on his economic reforms. Biden is facing a much taller task though. Cornel West is running on the Green Party ticket. His record as a strong Bernie surrogate and leader of the left could poach some votes for Biden.

Biden could also have to run against a centrist challenger in the No Labels party, potentially a Larry Hogan or Joe Manchin fiscal conservative, who are mad about the spending packages Biden has passed in his first term.

Biden has to turn out those same voters who held their noses and voted for him again after four years of his presidency even with these other potential choices in the race.

Everyone has their griefs with Bidenomics.

An astounding majority of Americans believe that the country is headed in the wrong direction, and the economy is not working for them.

Income inequality is at its highest point in the modern era, and healthcare, rent and education costs continue to balloon.

Biden has not addressed these systemic problems, and his failure to do so hurts his chances. The Biden campaign feels strongly about one thing: Donald Trump.

Currently though, Biden is shown to be tied with Trump in many polls. You can have concerns about Biden’s age, his stutters and his lack of vision for America, but compared to Trump he’s an angel.

Even Biden himself said, “don’t compare me to the almighty, compare me to the alternative.”

Few Americans have forgotten Trump’s horrible last year in office. The mishandling of the pandemic, the racist remarks at Black Lives Matter protests, the countless lies about the 2020 election and the Jan. 6 insurrection all characterized 2020 and early 2021. Donald Trump has been rated over and over again as one of the top five worst presidents in American history by liberal and conservative scholars.

Again, Biden’s average presidency will look like a paradise if Trump is picked to run by the Republican Party.

If the 2024 election is between Trump and Biden, then Biden looks prime to win another term.

As Gen-Z becomes a bigger part of the voting electorate, it becomes harder to see any Republican beat a Democrat for president. No matter what you may think of Biden and the Democratic establishment, at least they have outlined a policy agenda that restores trust in our country abroad, lowers inflation and combats the climate change and student loan crisis we face today.

What is Trump’s plan?
