Fredonia State’s women’s soccer lost both games in Rochester this past weekend: 3-1 to Rochester on Friday and 3-2 to Union on Saturday.

Fredonia did not do much to stop the onslaught both days and allowed a total of six goals — getting outshot 29-15 in total.

Junior Ally Tatro put Fredonia’s only tally on the board during Friday’s game. At the time, the goal tied the game in the 33rd minute. From there, Rochester put the throttle down and only let off a few times when Fredonia added pressure in the second half. The Yellowjackets tucked one in the back of the net before the end of the half to pull ahead once again. In the second half, Rochester scored once more in the 81st minute to conclude the scoring at 3-1.

In Friday’s game, Rochester had nine shots on target of their 13 attempt with junior goalkeeper Lindsey Forness turning away six. Sophomore Alexis Moreland led the Blue Devils with three shots, two of which were on target. Two of Rochester’s three goals came from players off the bench.

In Saturday’s game against Union, sophomore Kristie Kleine’s two goals were the bookends of the game for Fredonia, opening the scoring in the 16th minute and tallying the last goal of the match in the 86th. Moreland contributed an assist on her first goal while her sister, senior Katie Kleine, got the helper on her second.

Moreland and (Kristie) Kleine had two shots each, making up half of Fredonia’s eight shots.

As for the trio of scorers in the second half of the weekend, “It was good to see Kristie get two goals on Saturday. Moreland played all 180 minutes and for the most part was solid. It was great to have Katie back on the field for us. She’s a great on-field leader,” said Coach Chris Case.

Before the half, Union added heavy pressure and overcame the one-goal deficit as the teams went to the locker rooms with the Dutchwomen up 2-1. Union added their third goal in the 75th minute of the game before Fredonia made a charge on Kleine’s late tally, which proved to be too late. In her second straight start, Forness needed a kevlar vest in net, with back-to-back six-save performances over the weekend, facing nine shots on target of Union’s 16 attempts.
“Lindsey did make some mistakes, but she also made some great plays. After two years she is still trying to get back to where she was. She is a hard worker and will only get better as the season goes on,” said Case.

The Blue Devils will look to get started in the win column this weekend hosting Medaille at 5 p.m. Friday and Mount Union at 7 p.m. on Saturday at University Stadium.
