Buffalo taking care of business

DANTE LASTING

Sports Editor

The Buffalo Bills did what they had to do and took care of business. Coming off of a bad game last week, the Bills needed to come prepared and put away a bad team. The team did that in a 24-9 win against the Washington Redskins. The win was not as big as most fans wanted, but it was a win indeed.

The offense came out swinging and was in rhythm from the first drive of the game. There was more of an emphasis on the running game after the team got away from it
last week.

Rookie running back Devin Singletary had a breakout day, running for 95 yards on 20 carries and had a rushing touchdown. This is the type of workload that fans have wanted to see given to the rookie since he returned from his injury. Singletary is a young playmaker that adds so much value to this offense and can change the game on any play.

Josh Allen also played well on Sunday. He went 14/20 for 160 yards with two touchdowns, one through the air and one on the ground. Allen continues to do enough to get this team tough wins. He also has been taking care of the football and not giving the ball to the other team. Allen now has 89 pass attempts without an interception, which is a career high for him.

Buffalo continues to see him grow and develop every week. The Bills quarterback went from throwing six interceptions in his first four games to only one in his last four games. The future looks promising for the young
Bills quarterback.

As for the Bills defense, they are still showing a weakness in stopping the run. In the first half, Redskins running back Adrian Peterson had 101 yards rushing.

Not one Bills defender could stop him.

They were missing tackles and could not get the future Hall of Famer down. This has been a pattern over the past three weeks and could be an issue going forward as the Bills face some top-tier running backs.

One difference about the defensive performance this past week is that they tightened up in the second half. They only allowed one field goal, and Peterson had only seven rushing yards. The defense also tallied four sacks throughout the game, which is tied for the most in a game this season for this team.

Buffalo will need to continue to take care of business throughout these next three weeks. They have three winnable games as they play the Browns, Dolphins and Broncos. Their combined record is 6-19, and if the Bills consider themselves a true playoff contender, they need to put these teams away.

The Bills will travel to Cleveland to face the Browns in what will be their first away game in over a month. Buffalo looks to get their seventh win of the season, which would be one more than the team had all of last season when they finished 6-10. That game will be Sunday at 1 p.m. on CBS.
