It was a busy weekend to be a Blue Devil athlete.

The swimming and diving team had two meets this weekend, along with a cross country tournament as well as the home opener game for women’s basketball. Lastly, hockey had a game against Chatham.

After a long 32 events, men’s and women’s swimming/diving completed a meet in Alfred, N.Y. on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The women came home with a win (158-98) and the men fell short (93-197).

Some highlights from this weekend include the third event, women’s 1000 yard freestyle.

First and second place both went to Blue Devil swimmers.

Mckayla Polowy had a final time of 11:37.78 that secured her first place, followed by Rachael Mayou.

Polowy also secured first place in the women’s 500 yard freestyle.

The men’s highlights included Kyle Copper coming in first in the men’s 200 yard butterfly event. His final time was 2:00.05. The second meet was at Rochester, and both swim teams came home without a win.

Women’s basketball just had their home opener game this past Saturday.

It drew a great crowd from fellow student athletes and Coach Cartmill led her team to victory.

They came out on top against Pitt-Bradford.

The final score was 77-60.

Although the season has just started, the drive for SUNYACs is already present in this young team.

Freshman Maddy Miske scored four three-pointers, making for a total of 12 points in her debut game.

She’ll certainly be one to watch grow as the season develops.

The men’s hockey team continues their dominant run over the Chatham Cougars with a 7-2 final score. This is the third game in a row they’ve defeated Chatham out of the four games they’ve faced, with the fourth game resulting in a tie.

Anton Rosen had 23 saves, making him the winning goalie.

Each of Fredonia’s seven goals were made by a different Blue Devil, but both Victor Tracy and Ethan Kirbis were credited with three assists a piece.

It was a back-and-forth start at first, but senior Jacob Haynes gave Fredonia their final lead with a power-play goal in the second period.

It was both the game-winning goal in addition to being his first goal of the season.

With winter sports in full swing, there are a couple of tournaments coming up this weekend.

Men’s basketball will be competing in the Nazareth Tournament, first facing Vassar college on Friday at 6 p.m. in Rochester.

Women’s basketball will be competing in the John Carroll Tournament.

They will be taking on the hosting team also on Friday in Ohio.

The hockey team has two games this weekend.

The first is on Friday at Plattsburgh, following up with a game at Potsdam the following day.

NCAA Atlantic Regional is taking place this weekend, and both the men’s and women’s cross country teams will be competing.
