There aren’t too many games left this semester for our winter teams, but this last week’s slate of games support good causes.

The men’s ice hockey team played its Stroke Awareness game this past weekend against Oswego. The result was a 4-5 loss in a
thrilling game.

“What was more important than the game, however, was the team showing their support for those affected by strokes.

Athletic Director Jerry Fisk had this to say on the impact on the public and the community: “This is the kind of thing that makes me proud as an athletic director. When I was hired, I said, ‘If you’re just hiring me to win games, I’m not your guy. We’re here to make this a better place, we’re here to impact the community, we’re here to encourage and empower and enable the people that need that.’

The team also played Friday night at home against Cortland State, coming away with a
3-2 victory.

The Blue Devils have one more game remaining this semester, on Dec. 14 at home against Chatham with a Teddy Bear Toss event during the game. The Teddy Bear Toss will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Dunkirk, with all teddy bears and proceeds going to
the organization.

As for the basketball teams, both men and women have ugly sweater events sponsored by SAAC happening this week, with the women’s team playing Tuesday night against Allegheny. At the game, you can get a raffle ticket by wearing an ugly sweater and/or bringing canned goods to be donated to the food pantry. This also goes for the men’s game Wednesday against Penn State Behrend. These are the last games that both teams will be playing in until next semester.

At the time of the writing of this article, the men and women’s swimming and diving invitational at Cortland had not yet concluded.

This weekend also saw both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams travel to Cortland for the Snowflurries Invitational.

After the first day of competing, the men sat in third overall, led by an individual win in the 200-yard IM by Eric Kalsman. The women are currently in fifth behind a victory in the 500 free by McKayla Polowy. Both teams are done until we come back to school after the winter break.

The last two teams to compete over the weekend were both the men’s and women’s track and field teams. This was the first form of competition of this season for the teams, and they, too, are done competing this semester.
