What the Fall Semester brings for Fredonia sports teams

This past year had many obstacles for sports teams to overcome.

There were limits on the number of athletes in the weight rooms, practice pods separating teams and mask requirements for players to follow at practices and games.

This upcoming semester will have noticeable changes for these athletes.

One of these changes is the mask rule. As of this writing, the rule for wearing masks is the “on campus verses in campus” rule. When you are in a building, a mask is required. When you are on the campus but outside, you will not be required to wear a mask.

This will allow teams that practice outside to not need to wear masks, which could make working on their cardio conditioning less of a worry.

Another change that happened towards the end of last semester were pod sizes. These pods started out in groups of 10, then were allowed to expand after multiple weeks.

With vaccinations being a requirement to attend classes in-person next semester, the need for having pods is no longer relevant.

One thing that hasn’t yet been fleshed out is the occupancy numbers in facilities like the basketball court, the indoor track or the weight rooms in Dods Hall.

Last year these facilities had very limited occupancy, but that may change with the vaccination requirement.

The Blue Devil Fitness Center, the weight room open to the public, will still be functioning with student-prioritized online sign ups and a scheduled time for people to be allowed to use the facility.
