Fredonia sports update (10.24.2021)

This past weekend saw some new Fredonia teams in action, as well as the rest of the fall teams. Men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams had their first home meets since 2019.

The men’s swimming and diving team was able to beat Jamestown Community College.

Ian Hilldale was able to win the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle, Riker Smith won the 50 butterfly and 50 backstroke, and Samuel Cottrell won the 50 and 100 breaststroke. Noah Wisniewski was able to win both the 100 backstroke and the 200 IM, while Tyler Conti won the 500 freestyle.

As for the women’s swimming and diving team, they were unable to beat William Smith in their first home meet of the season, but claimed eight of the 16 winning times.

Mindy Doktor took four of these, with 50 and 100 butterfly and the 100 and 500 freestyle. McKayla Polowy won the 500 and 1,000 freestyle, while Lauren Ditchey won the breaststroke and Kayla Hagen won the 50 freestyle.

Both teams will host Buffalo State Saturday, October 30th in SUNY Fredonia’s Natatorium.

Women’s volleyball hosted the Fredonia State Tri-match this past weekend, with the first match a 3–0 sweep over Hilbert before losing in straight sets to Case Western.

Leading Fredonia in kills for the two matches were Eleanor Clarke and Emily Jones.

This week, they play host to Pitt Bradford Tuesday evening before a weekend road trip to face St. John Fisher and Elmira.

Men’s soccer concluded their season this past weekend with two losses. 

The first was a 1–2 match against Brockport on the road where Jackson Retzer scored the Blue Devils lone goal of the match.

The second match was a 1–4 loss to Geneseo. Kevin Loftus scored for Fredonia in the 54th minute of the match.

The women’s soccer team was able to split their final homestand. The Blue Devils beat Brockport Friday 3–1, with Lexi Lindamer, Gabby Alston and Kayleigh Daniels scoring for the team.

They were unable to win their regular season finale against Geneseo, losing 0–1.

The women’s soccer team will travel to New Paltz Saturday for the first round of the SUNYAC Playoffs.

Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams were off this weekend. They will travel to Cortland for the SUNYAC Championships Saturday.
