MEN’S SOCCER

With the semester underway, many Fredonia sports teams are getting their seasons started.

One team who’s getting the ball rolling is the men’s soccer team.

The team is led by four seniors — midfielders Andres Martinez and Jake Gennaro, defender Markus Johansson and goalkeeper Kyle Pezzulo.

The team has started the season 4-0-3.

Junior Kaleb Steward, who led the team in points last season, already has six points in five games for the Blue Devils.

Sophomore Chance LaCroix will look to build off his freshman campaign where he had eight points in 12 games, which was good for second on the team.

The team will look to continue their solid start and carry it into SUNYAC play.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

The women’s soccer team has started off the year with a 3-2-1 record and have yet to be beaten at home.

The team is relatively young, with 18 underclassmen on the roster.

They do, however, have nine upperclassmen, including three fifth-year seniors to help the team grow – midfielders Jordan Barrett, Lexi Lindamer and Talia DeFay.

Also returning for her senior season is forward Bri Grazen, who led the team in points last season.

She currently leads the team with four goals in six games.

After losing last year’s starting goalkeeper Sabrina Suriani, who graduated last year, junior Dani Rubino has stepped into the starting role for the Blue Devils.

She has 24 saves as well as a shutout under her belt through five games as the starter.

CROSS COUNTRY

The men’s cross country team is led by three seniors — Kyle Campbell, Sembel Koshi and Josh Walters.

The team has participated in two meets already and finished in first and third, respectively.

They will look to keep this strong start going as they head toward regional championships.

The women’s team has two returning seniors, Elizabeth Gloss and Vanessa Ryhal.

They will also look to build off a first place finish at Hilbert College early in the season and keep momentum going as the season progresses.

Both teams will be participating in the Kara Hall Memorial Invitational to celebrate the life of 2017 graduate and former member of the women’s cross country team, Kara Hall.

Hall died in 2020 after being struck by a car while out for a run. She was 25-years-old.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

The women’s volleyball team is relatively young this season, and they will look to develop as the year progresses.

The lone senior on the team, libero Elora Sherman, played in all 24 matches last season and recorded a team high 278 digs.

Last year’s kill leader, outside hitter Gabrielle Sordetto, returns for her junior year.

She led the team with 199 kills, recording multiple games with 15 or more kills.

The Blue Devils are off to a 1-6 start on the season but will look to turn it around once SUNYAC play starts in a few weeks.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

The women’s tennis team has six upperclassmen and only three freshmen, making for a veteran-heavy squad.

The team defeated Houghton on Sept. 11, marking their first victory since April 2021.

Fredonia will look to build off of that win as they continue their season, with SUNYAC play soon to begin.

Enjoy the last of the nice weather Western New York has for us and support your Blue Devils this fall.
