WOMEN’S TENNIS

The women’s tennis season was ultimately cut a bit short, as their final match was canceled due to inclement weather.

The Blue Devils were set to face Penn State Behrend in Erie, P.A. on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

As a result, Fredonia finished 2-9 on the season.

The season was highlighted by the team’s first victory in more than two years, a win over Houghton on Sept. 11.

Fredonia also pulled off a late-season upset victory over SUNYAC rival Plattsburgh on Oct. 7.

The team will say goodbye to seniors Gabrielle Gance and Caitlin Snyder, but will return many of the same faces in 2024.

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

The men’s cross country team finished up its regular season on Saturday, Oct. 14 with a 20th-place finish at Geneseo.

Senior Kyle Campbell was Fredonia’s top finisher, placing 76th out of 371 finishers.

Seniors Sembel Koshi and Josh Walters finished second and third for Fredonia, placing 88th and 109th, respectively.

Freshmen Quillan Shimp and Aiden VanAmburg rounded out the top five for the Blue Devils, placing 139th and 148th, respectively.

The team will have a week off before the SUNYAC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28, hosted by Oneonta.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

The women’s cross country team traveled to Geneseo for their final regular season meet, finishing in 21st place.

Junior Ally Battaglia was Fredonia’s top finisher, placing 126th out of 300 finishers.

Junior Arden Brown was second for the Blue Devils, finishing in 135th place.

Junior Liz Gloss and senior Vanessa Ryhal were third and fourth on the team, finishing within 0.6 seconds of each other in 138th and 139th, respectively.

Sophomore Ashlyn Ambrose rounded out the top five for Fredonia, finishing in 140th place just six seconds behind Ryhal.

The team will be off next weekend as they prepare for the SUNYAC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Oneonta.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

The women’s volleyball team was on the road for a pair of conference matchups over the weekend, falling in both.

On Friday, Oct. 13, the Blue Devils traveled to Brockport, and were defeated in three straight sets.

Freshman Molly Cassidy led the team in assists with 11, and she also provided Fredonia’s only ace of the game.

Freshman Cayla Partsch led the way in blocks with five.

Freshman Kylie O’Brien recorded a team-high six kills, and three players tallied a team-best 11 digs.

On Saturday, Oct. 14, Fredonia traveled to Geneseo, losing 3-0.

Cassidy shined once again, leading the team with 19 assists and 12 digs.

O’Brien again led the way in kills, recording eight.

Junior Erin Callahan led the team in blocks with three, while senior Elora Sherman and sophomore Grace Kusmierz each provided one ace.

The losses dropped Fredonia’s record to 3-15, and they will return to action on Friday, Oct. 20 as they host Cortland.

MEN’S SOCCER

The men’s soccer team hosted Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 14 against Oneonta in their final home conference matchup of the season.

In the game, Fredonia allowed a goal in the first half, but the team battled back to even the score with sophomore midfielder Freddie Butler’s first goal of the season.

However, Oneonta scored the go-ahead goal in the 74th minute, ultimately prevailing 2-1.

The Blue Devils were outshot 23-8 in total, and trailed 14-3 in shots on goal.

The loss marked Fredonia’s third in a row, and it dropped their conference record to 1-6-1.

Their overall record currently sits at 5-6-4.

The Blue Devils will be back at it on Wednesday, Oct. 18 as they host Penn State Behrend in their final home game of the season.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

The women’s soccer team was on the road over the weekend, traveling to Oneonta for a SUNYAC matchup on Saturday, Oct. 14.

After a scoreless first half, Oneonta struck for two second-half goals, ultimately defeating the Blue Devils 2-0.

Fredonia outshot Oneonta 17-10 in total, and the Blue Devils led the way in shots on goal, 8-6.

Freshman goalkeeper Abby Szymkowiak made four saves in the loss.

The loss extended Fredonia’s losing streak to three games, a span in which they have been outscored 4-0.

Their overall record sits at 5-7-2, and their conference record sits at 2-5-1.

The team will return home for a non-conference matchup with Penn State Behrend at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
