Do you think the Campus Cryptic graffiti is something that the campus should be filing criminal charges over?

Emmett Mallory, freshman animation and illustration major

“I have no opinion.”

Keegan Herriman, sophomore graphic design major

“I don’t think Campus Cryptic should be charged because the stairwells are ugly anyways, and they were just trying to make them better. And nothing bad was put up there — it was all wholesome stuff!”

“The Cryptic shouldn’t be charged for free expression. I understand what was done was large, but this is an art campus where students leave large installations all over. Not to mention the school doing this only brings more attention to the Cryptic.”

Anonymous, junior drawing and painting major

“The Cryptic should be charged for what they did. Normally, art students do some small doodles on the stairwells and no harm is done. However, the Cryptic did a rather large doodle compared to the usual ones, which wouldn’t be that bad if it was easy to clean off. But it was done in permanent marker I believe, making it very hard to be cleaned off. In conclusion, I believe charges should be done, but not a very severe one as it is just graffiti.”

Melanie Mejia, sophomore animation and illustration major

“I feel like the Cryptic shouldn’t be charged. I think that it’s a statement that we should keep our walls open for art to be made. This is an art building. There should be more art shown by the students, not just a specific art project. Though I do think they went the wrong way about it. They should’ve petitioned for this to be a norm instead and maybe make a new tradition of artist designing on these walls. I like what the Cryptic stands for, which is freedom to create art.”
