Fredonia unveils not at all anticipated new slogan

After minutes of deliberation from a committee of over three people, Fredonia now has a new slogan called “Fredonia: It’s What You Expect!”

The slogan committee consisted of two theatre arts majors, a communications student and an English minor who all met in the line at Starbucks. Lisa Simpson, a member of the committee, spoke to The Leader about the process.

“It was a really demanding process, you know. There were so many good ideas thrown around. But at the end of the day, we think ‘It’s What You Expect’ really encapsulates everything this school represents and, honestly, what this university strives to be,” Simpson said.

Another committee member, Dan Yell, shared some of the rejected slogans. Jewels such as “Fredonia: It’s Like an Hour Away From Buffalo,” “Fredonia: It’s Diverse … Now,” “Fredonia: A Passing Grade is a D+” and “Fredonia: The Hidden Gem Of The SUNYs!”

Dan Yell said the committee had a particular disinterest in the last one.

“No one liked that one mainly because the guy who came up with it brought the wrong donuts to the first meeting. We forced him to quit almost immediately. You don’t bring jelly donuts to a serious occasion,” Yell said.

Yell informed us that the process to get the new slogan was easier than he imagined.

“We cornered Horvath while she was getting out of her car and handed her the Willies napkin we wrote our idea on,” he said.

When we asked people on campus what they thought of the new slogan, we were met with a myriad of responses from “Huh” to “That’s what they chose?” and “Schools get slogans?” When we asked how the new slogan would be implemented, Yell and Davis seemed nervous.

“Well, there would be T-shirts, mugs, keychains,” Davis explained. “We didn’t think we’d get this far, to be honest.”

We know, Davis. We didn’t either.
