Brews Under Review: Pretzel Bender

Admittedly, this week has been a whirlwind for me, and I honestly couldn’t think of a better way to unwind than a visit to EBC West.

The great thing about EBC is the perfect combination of atmosphere and food. I find it comforting to sit and absorb the sounds, sights and, most especially, the mouth-watering smells of the delicious entrees.

During this venture to EBC, I decided to test out Pretzel Bender which is described on the menu as “an easy drinking Dunkelweizen [a hybrid German-style of brewing], dark in color, but light in taste.”

This particular beer features an ABV (alcohol by volume) of 5.0, while its IBU (international bitterness units) rang in at 60 IBUs.

The first thing I noticed was the striking color, but don’t let it fool you. Disguised as a dark and edgy beer, this drink certainly has a nice and light spring in its step.

Pretzel Bender’s amber color is reminiscent of the brown color of a freshly-baked pretzel, while the smoothness of this light beer would certainly pair well with the salty snack. I tend to gravitate toward light beers and this one certainly doesn’t disappoint.

While sipping my beer, the Detroit Tigers and Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game was wrapping up the thirteenth inning. I honestly can’t think of a better combination than a great baseball game and enjoying a glass of Pretzel Bender.

After a tough week, it’s always nice to sit back and take a moment to enjoy yourself and appreciate the good things in life. After checking out Pretzel Bender, it’s safe to say that I would hop at the chance to get another glass of this brew.

Treat yourself to a nice dupe in Pretzel Bender for a smooth light beer that is the perfect way to reward yourself (go ahead, you’ve earned it).

When all else fails, do as the Romans do — carpe diem and get this seasonal brew before it’s gone.
