This past Wednesday night, Sigma Gamma Phi held their annual Bingo for Babies in the Williams Center MPR.

Bingo for Babies is an event that helps raise money and awareness for March of Dimes, one of the sorority’s philanthropies.

March of Dimes is an organization that researches and finds solutions to help keep premature babies, and mothers with complicated pregnancies, healthy.

Junior exercise science major Emily Shellenberger holds the position of Sigma Gamma Phi’s philanthropy chair.

Part of her job is planning all of the sororities philanthropy events, including this one.

“We set up bingo. We usually do it every year. I just made sure to promote it even more this year,” she said.

This year’s turn out made the fundraiser a success.

The night featured seven rounds of bingo, and each board was available for a dollar a piece.

Every round had a different prize ranging from Maria’s pizza gift cards to a giant stuffed koala bear.

March of Dimes holds a special place in the sisters of Sigma Gamma Phi’s hearts, especially Shellenberger’s.

“My little cousin only weighed 13 ounces when she was born. She was the size of a ruler. That’s why I ran for this position, it was extremely close to me,” she said.
