From the desk of Christie Fils-Aimé, Business Manager

How has my life changed during a COVID-19? Well, I’m a senior who will never walk the stage with my friends. I’m a senior who did not get to experience my senior spring-break trip. I’m a senior who missed out on all the activities my group and I had stored for the spring semester.

Hi, my name is Christie Fils-Aimé, and I am one of the many millions of seniors who was robbed of their memorable final year. Like many others, I had many plans in-store for the rest of the semester and summer. To start off, the week after spring break would have been MultiCultural Weekend (MCW). Many activities such as Fredonia’s guest star, David Dobrik, BSU Fashion and my dance team performance for Carnival were to happen that weekend. This year would have been my first time modeling for the fashion show, and I was looking forward to sharing that experience with some of my closest friends.

My dance group, EnFusion, had a great performance ready for the carnival. In addition, EnFusion also would have been hosting their annual “Battle of the SUNYs” in April. Battle of the SUNYs is a dance/step competition among different SUNYs schools.

Fils-Aimé and her friends sped up graduation by decorating their caps and taking pictures around Fredonia | Christie Fils-Aimé

The biggest disappointment is graduation. I had plans to have family from all over Haiti, where I am originally from, to come and celebrate this milestone in my life. Furthermore, I had plans on accomplishing an internship that would look amazing on my resume. With all this uncertainty, there’s also job uncertainties. As a senior, that’s not a statement I like to hear.

Even though we are facing tough times and COVID-19 altered my life like many others, I try to stay positive. Before we evacuated the school, some of my closest friends and I sped up our graduation. We went around our favorite spots in Fredonia and took pictures with our caps. This is a difficult time for us, but I believe if we play our part, we can help end this. Once we hit rock bottom, the only place is to go up. I hope, myself and everyone else, post-COVID19 comes out stronger than ever.
